Joel Schwartz

Joel is a 3rd year PhD candidate in Physics & Astronomy at Northwestern. A native of Chicago, he earned his BA in Mathematics from Northeastern Illinois University. He has a broad range of scientific interests, and began his graduate career in biophysics studying DNA-protein interactions. Now in astrophysics and planetary science, his research uses data obtained from optical eclipses and thermal phase variations for “Hot Jupiter” exoplanets. The objective is to isolate the effects of albedo and heat transport on these select bodies.
